Travel Joy, Volume 2, Implementing the Concept for Global Travel Excellence

This volume is written for the traveler who is eager to move toward destinations, who already understands the why from Volume 1, and who is interested in the where and how. Accordingly, it focuses on the core concepts of implementation: travel destinations and travel style, as well as the phases of execution: planning, visiting, documentation, and travel reflection.
Destinations: selection, definition, and listing. Our list of 6,000 highlights concentrates on essentials and extremes; through this limitation, they become achievable within a lifetime of travel. Highlights are defined objectively through a systematic methodology that is transparent and traceable. Category rankings make the selection process clear.
The renowned UNESCO World Heritage List is fully included in our list. However, 500 World Heritage sites are defined differently, namely as travel destinations rather than protected areas. Where UNESCO contains too many locations, we apply a focused approach. The relationships between the two lists are transparent and compared in detail. The difference in scope and methodology is substantial.
Our world list and five books form a consistent overall concept: Vol. 1 Success Concept, Vol. 2 (this volume) Implementation, Vol. 3 My Life, My Insights, Vol. 4 Role Models, Vol. 5 Training. This work uniquely combines philosophy, the spirit of travel, highlight descriptions, and the Google data world.
Travel style. Boundary-pushing experiences take center stage. Experience means more than the here and now - it encompasses dimensions of the transcendent and of origin. We cover all travel styles within a comprehensive system, yet advocate for a systematic and intensive approach.
Phases of implementation: We clarify the framework conditions and plan in a way that minimizes planning itself, making it globally applicable while keeping highlights at the center. Minimal planning lists stand in stark contrast to what most agents provide, yet they are the key to continuous travel. We minimize form and maximize experience. At the same time, we maintain discipline in daily documentation, daily program reviews, annual records, and a structured system for all files, all designed to integrate seamlessly with one another.
At the end of every journey, we reflect intensively and answer the question of enrichment - for ourselves and for those we visit

Frank Grosse - The Best-Traveled Man in the World
In 1957, young Frank set out to improve his English skills and traveled to England's Lake District. Sixty years later, the Lake District became a World Heritage Site - and Frank became the number one traveler on the World Heritage List.
Frank, whose full name is Wigand Frank Grosse-Oetringhaus, studied industrial engineering at TU Berlin and earned his doctorate at the University of Giessen. He worked as a management consultant for Siemens, rose to become a top-level management trainer, authored Siemens' leadership system, developed a new approach to strategy, and taught part-time for 18 years at the University of St. Gallen. During these years, he traveled intermittently.
In 2006, he radically changed his style of travel. Together with Teo Murallon, he began traveling continuously, systematically, and intensively.
Teo, a specialist in anesthesiology, practiced in the Philippines, worked as a nurse in New York, and cared for Frank's mother until her passing. Thus was born a partnership of two fused kindred spirits on the road; together they explored the world for 13 years.
Together, they developed a travel philosophy where quantity was secondary, and the unique and essential aspects of the world took center stage. Teo passed away from COVID-19 in 2021.
After Teo's death, Frank continued his journeys - more radically and deeply - culminating in the legendary Humboldt memorial expeditions of 2023 to the Casiquiare and upper Orinoco, and in 2024 to the tepuis, the middle Orinoco, and the Llanos.
He looks back on 26 years on the road: a life driven by the joy of travel.
