As in Volume I, the nursing wolf Tiffy is abducted during an outing, reportedly in a rocket according to eyewitnesses. Wolf, the guardian of the wolves and his two companions were told by the Elves that female wolves are disappearing everywhere. The questions of who and why remain unanswered at first. Is President Strampler and his vassal Firlefance from the Fake-Land, who have rockets, behind it? The companions learn more in Hyperborea, the legendary land in the far north. A wealthy industrial magnate, Aegon Muscle, holds the abducted individuals captive on his Mars station. What is his purpose? With the support of a master from the Hyperboreans, an eight-member mixed animal-human-elf team sets out for Mars to investigate and rescue the female wolves.
